Skin resurfacing - Venus Viva™ MD

What is Venus Viva™ MD?

Venus Viva™ MD is an advanced, non-surgical skin resurfacing treatment designed to improve the appearance of acne scars, deep wrinkles, stretch marks, enlarged pores, rosacea, and uneven skin texture or pigmentation. Using innovative technology that is safe for all skin tones, it delivers powerful results with minimal discomfort and downtime. Unlike older CO2 laser treatments that required significant healing and were limited to lighter complexions, Venus Viva™ MD offers a more comfortable solution with broader accessibility. It also achieves more dramatic improvements than many superficial treatments, such as chemical peels and microdermabrasion, helping you achieve smoother, healthier-looking skin at Refresh Medical.

How Venus Viva™ MD Skin Resurfacing Works

Venus Viva™ MD at Refresh Medical in Rochester, NY uses advanced NanoFractional Radio Frequency technology delivered through tiny pins to gently heat the skin’s surface. This process creates controlled micro-dermal wounds that trigger your body’s natural healing response, helping to repair visible signs of skin damage and promote a smoother, healthier-looking complexion. Because these micro-injuries are so small, treatments are far more comfortable than traditional CO2 lasers while still achieving impressive, noticeable results.

For enhanced rejuvenation, your treatment plan may also include the DiamondPolar™ applicator. This technology combines Multi-Polar Radio Frequency and Pulsed Electro Magnetic Fields to generate consistent heat beneath the skin. As a result, it naturally stimulates collagen and elastin production, helping to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and give skin a firmer, more youthful appearance.

  • Safe for all skin tones: Unlike many resurfacing options, Venus Viva™ MD is safe and effective for all complexions, including darker skin tones.
  • Minimal downtime: You can return to your regular skincare routine just 24 hours after a resurfacing treatment — and there’s no downtime at all with wrinkle reduction sessions.
  • Fast treatments: Sessions are quick and convenient, typically lasting only 15–30 minutes.

  • Aftercare: You may experience slight redness or swelling, similar to a mild sunburn, which typically subsides within 1-2 days.
  • Results: It becomes noticeable around the six-week mark as new collagen forms and the skin continues to improve. Each subsequent treatment enhances these effects, revealing firmer, smoother, and more radiant skin over time.

Frequently Asked Questions About
Venus Viva™ MD at Refresh Medical

Is One Session of Venus Viva™ MD Enough?

While a single session can offer noticeable improvements, most individuals need 3-4 skin resurfacing treatments per area and 6-8 anti-aging treatments per area to achieve optimal results. Each treatment builds on the previous one, progressively enhancing skin texture, firmness, and overall radiance. Your aesthetic provider will personalize the number of sessions based on your unique skin concerns and goals, ensuring you get the most effective results.

How Long Does the Venus Viva™ MD Treatment Last?

After your final treatment, your results will continue to improve. However, one touch-up session may be needed approximately every 6months, depending on how your skin responds.

After the final wrinkle reduction treatment, results will continue to improve for up to 3-4 months. After that, the face and body continue to age, so maintenance treatments are recommended once a month or every 3-4 months depending on your condition.

How Painful is the Venus Viva™ MD treatment?

Venus Viva™ MD treatments may be slightly uncomfortable, but not painful.

Venus Viva™ MD After Care Instructions

POST-PROCEDURAL CARE - DAY 1 TO 5

The healing time for any given treatment varies between different clients. The following represents the general recovery phases you might expect. Individual clients may experience variations from this course. Immediate responses and possible side effects may include:

  • Discomfort or pain during or post treatment (itching may occur during healing)
  • Excessive skin redness (erythema) and/or swelling (edema)
  • In-grown hairs
  • Damage to natural skin texture (burn, blister, crust or pustules)
  • Change in pigmentation (hyper- and hypo-pigmentation)
  • Scarring
  • Potential heat damage of hair follicles in the treatment area (i.e. the male facial hair )
Swelling/Discomfort/Redness:

Significant swelling and redness of the treated areas and untreated parts may occur following your procedure, and will be maximal at 24 - 48 hours. To minimize swelling, keep your head elevated. It is not uncommon for clients to experience under-eye swelling for the first 1 to 2 days, but this swelling will subside. There will be redness and slight heat emanating from the treated area for the first 24 hours, akin to a mild sunburn. It is unusual to experience severe or excessive

pain; you should notify us if this occurs. Tiny scabs will usually be formed 24 - 72 hours post-treatment and may remain for several days. The scabs should not be touched or scratched even if they itch and should be allowed to shed off naturally.

Activity:

Some mild discomfort may occasionally follow resurfacing treatment. You may return to regular activities immediately. It is advised that you avoid hot baths, saunas, Jacuzzis, and pools for the first two days following treatment. The skin should be kept clean to avoid contamination or infection. Any mechanical or thermal damage to the area must be avoided. Some minor heat emanating from the treated area is normal. Post-treatment cooling is not necessary and should not be used under regular skin responses.

Moisturizer:

Post-treatment care, including applying of moisturizers or supporting creams on the treated skin, is at the Physician’s discretion.

Make-Up:

After 24 hours, most resurfacing clients are ready for makeup to hide the pinkness of the skin. If applied, it is important that you remove all makeup from the skin at night. Do not sleep with makeup on the treated area.

Avoiding the Sun:

Avoiding direct sun should become a permanent component of your long-term skin care program. Starting 24-48 hours post-treatment, pending skin recovery, you should use a high-factor sunscreen (at least 30 SPF) and protect the treated area from sunlight for at least one month after the treatment. Tanning of any sort (sun exposure, tanning beds, and artificial sunless tanning lotions) is not allowed in the treated areas during the entire course of the treatment. Tanning after treatment may cause hyperpigmentation.

Long-Term Skin Care:

In addition to avoiding direct sun exposure, we suggest all clients use long-term skin care that will optimize the youthful, rejuvenated appearance you have achieved. We offer clients a program for long-term facial skin maintenance This unique program offers state-of-the-art skin maintaining and rejuvenating creams that are only available and administered by our medical team.
