One of our favorite treatments at Refresh Medical is Sculptra. Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material used in medical devices like dissolvable stitches for decades. It comes from the manufacturer as a powder in a vial that we reconstitute with bacteriostatic water in the office. We then pull it up into a syringe and inject it through a small needle.

How It Works

Unlike traditional fillers that physically “fill” a space, Sculptra acts as a biostimulator.

• Injection: Micro-particles of PLLA are injected deep into the skin’s dermal layer.
• Scaffolding: These particles create a microscopic scaffold that triggers a mild, controlled inflammatory response.
• Collagen Production: This response signals fibroblasts (collagen-producing cells) to build a new network of natural collagen around the PLLA particles.
